It's rare in the world of high fidelity audio products to find reference level, or near reference level, products that are available for prices that most can afford. Or, as a guy I used to work with often said, champagne sound on a beer budget. The Job Stereo Amplifier happens to be one such product that defies the laws of price and performance in the lofty priced world of hi-fi. Unfortunately it is no longer made and as such can be obtained by keen and patient eyes via eBay, Audiogon, and anywhere else used Goldmund, Job, and Stellavox products may be found.
Yes it's solid state and it's only 50 watts. I'm not going to pull anyone's leg and say it sounds anything like a tube amp or a kilowatt monoblock from Krell, Levinson, Pass, or well...Goldmund either. I pulled mine out of storage recently and had it bench tested since I hadn't used it in at least five years and it ran 53 watts before clipping under load. Now that I have said what it isn't, I'm going to get to the good stuff.
It runs the size of a paper back book, functions as a single source integrated amplifer or stereo power amplifier, and sounds amazing. This isn't a Class D, Class T or ICEpower® either. It's a compact, precision made (Swiss!), exceedingly detailed and transparent, dynamic (within the power limitations), and has no obvious sound of it's own. If you can find one I highly recommend it as a primary or secondary amplifier. It's great to have a backup when the big dog goes in the shop.
